It keeps persistent memory across sessions, builds reusable skills from the tasks it completes, and talks to you over Telegram, Discord, Slack, WhatsApp, Signal, or the CLI through a single gateway.
An always-on agent needs an always-on home. Our exe.dev VMs are ideal places to run it, because they are isolated by default, with a protected, authenticated HTTPS endpoint by default.
To set it up, create a VM with ssh exe.dev new, SSH in, and run the
one-line installer:

Then run hermes setup to pick a model provider and configure the messaging
gateway, and hermes doctor to verify the install. Run hermes to start
chatting.

Deploy with Shelley#
Click Deploy and Shelley will set up Hermes Agent on a new VM, then check that it works. No config-file wrangling required.

Set up Hermes Agent on this VM by following the exe.dev recipe at https://exe.dev/deploy/hermes-agent.md from top to bottom.
The recipe's example VM name is my-hermes-agent. This VM's name is the output of `hostname`: use it wherever the recipe writes my-hermes-agent. Skip the step that creates the VM; you are on it.
You are done when all of these are true. Check each one yourself:
- Hermes Agent, installed with the one-line installer
- A model provider and the messaging gateway, configured with `hermes setup`
- A clean bill of health from `hermes doctor`
`hermes setup` asks questions. Ask me for each answer (model provider,
messaging platforms, tokens) rather than guessing, and never echo a
token back. If I'm coming from OpenClaw, offer `hermes claw migrate`.
